How to Draw A Self Portrait

Step 1

In this tutorial on how to draw a self-portrait, we will draw a picture of a young woman as an example.

Even if you don’t look like her in real life, you can still follow the steps and tricks we use to create your selfie. First, you need a face outline.

We used a curved line for aspects like the chin, cheeks, and jawline to Draw A Self Portrait.

Then we used larger shapes for her eyes to create a more stylized look. The nose, lips, and eyebrows are drawn using simpler lines and shapes.

Finally, use wavy lines for her hair to fall on her face, and then we can move on to step 2.

Step 2

When drawing a picture of a human, one of the hardest parts can be getting the hair right!

For this part of your self-portrait drawing, you’ll use wavy lines for the shapes of her hair falling over her face.

As you draw, try to narrow down how your hairline is shaped and how it interacts with the rest of your face.

If you have very little hair, you will focus more on the shape of the head rather than depicting the hair flow.

Step 3

For the third step of this guide to drawing a selfie, let’s focus on the next section of her hair to Draw A Self Portrait.

All you have to do for this next part is add the same curved and wavy lines that you used on the rest of the hair.

This helps create the section of hair near the back of her head. We’ll finish the last section of her hair as we move to step four of the guide!

Step 4

As mentioned in the previous step of this selfie, we will finish the last section of her hair in this part.

This part takes care of the locks of hair that fall around her neck. These sections of her hair will be even more wavy and curly than the other sections.

As you work on your self-portrait, recognize the common shapes we could represent in your hairstyle to Draw A Self Portrait.

Step 5

We will move away from drawing her hair when we start this fifth step of our guide on drawing a selfie.
